It was only a few months ago that cellist Petar Pejčić made his debut as a soloist with the Deutsche Philharmonie Merck - at Kronberg Academy's Casals Forum. It was an inspiring evening and a home game for the 23-year-old, who has been described by the elite Kronberg Academy training center as "one of the greatest cello talents of the last ten years". Now audiences can also experience this phenomenal musician in Darmstadt with one of the most profound cello concertos ever - composed by Edward Elgar as a moving lament.
The weighty symphonic counterpart in our program, which is in a minor key throughout, is no less touching: the last symphony by Peter Tchaikovsky. It rightly bears the name "Pathétique"; its intense final movement leaves no one unmoved.
