Shortly before the end of the First World War and in the midst of the Spanish flu epidemic, which claimed over 600,000 lives in the USA, Pearl (Mia Goth) lives on a remote farm, trapped in everyday life with a seriously ill father and an embittered mother. Pearl wants nothing more than a glamorous life like the one she's seen in the movies.
