Theater am Domhof
Premiere: February 20, 2027
“I want to live. I want to live life to the fullest and make huge, spectacular, heroic mistakes. What else is there?”
A breakdown on stage. The actress Emma suffers a drug-induced psychosis. What now? A rehab clinic. Here, she’s supposed to battle her addiction to pills, alcohol, and cocaine. How do you face life’s bitter truths when you’ve always hidden in parallel worlds on stage? Instead of opening up to the help at the clinic and confronting herself, Emma sabotages her treatment. The pull of alcohol and drugs—which she needs to forget the cruelties of the world—is too strong. How can one be “normal” when a state of emergency has long been the norm? Emma must decide: Does she want to keep running away, or finally admit to herself that she needs help?
Author Duncan Macmillan has become an indispensable part of the British and international theater scene. With his unique flair for tragicomic moments, he has written a play about life’s ups and downs and encounters with other people.
