Hirayama (played by Koji Yakusho) seems perfectly content with his modest life as a toilet cleaner in the vibrant metropolis of Tokyo. Away from his structured everyday life, he cultivates his passion for music and literature. He listens to old cassettes and immerses himself in well-worn paperbacks. He is also fascinated by trees and captures particularly interesting specimens with his camera. But a series of unexpected encounters gradually reveal more about his past and the reasons why the simplicity of his daily life seems to give him the happiness he longs for.
