Period of Change 2026

In the organizer's words:

Period of Change 2026 – Breaking the Stigma
The Menstrual Health Conference

Menstrual health is not a niche topic.
It belongs at the center of medicine, society, and politics.

With “Period of Change,” the Institute for Menstrual Health (IZG) has been creating a platform since 2020 for knowledge, exchange, and structural change surrounding the topic of menstrual health. The conference is the first event in Germany to focus exclusively and from an interdisciplinary perspective on the health, social, and political dimensions of the menstrual cycle.

A topic that affects everyone—but has received too little attention so far

Menstrual-related conditions such as endometriosis, PMDD, adenomyosis, or PCOS affect millions of people—yet to this day, they are often diagnosed late, treated incorrectly, or considered a social taboo. Gaps in research, a lack of medical education and training, and a healthcare system centered on male body norms mean that menstruating people do not receive the care they need.
This is where Period of Change comes in: With a comprehensive program of keynotes, panels, workshops, and community events, the conference promotes in-depth knowledge about the menstrual cycle, interdisciplinary exchange, and policy discussions.
This year’s theme is: Breaking the Stigma.

With “Breaking the Stigma,” we aim to break down barriers, replace silence with conversation, and make new knowledge accessible.
