"Peter and the Wolf" (op. 67) is a world-famous musical fairy tale by Sergei Prokofiev that premiered in 1936. It was conceived to introduce children to the instruments of a symphony orchestra.
As long-standing cooperation partners, the Südliche Bergstraße Music School, Wiesloch City Library and the Palatin Cultural Center are looking forward to presenting many children and their families with this special musical experience with the music school's symphony orchestra under the direction of Nadine Bösing.
The story is about the courageous boy Peter (strings), who lives with his grandfather (bassoon) at the edge of a forest. Despite his grandfather's warnings, Peter goes to a meadow. There, his friend, a little bird (flute), and a quacking duck (oboe) play while a cat (clarinet) goes hunting. When a hungry wolf (French horns) emerges from the forest, it devours the duck alive. Undaunted, Peter catches the wolf with the help of the bird and a rope before the hunters (timpani) arrive. The story ends with a triumphal procession: Peter, the hunters, the grandfather and the captured animals lead the wolf to the zoo.
