It starts dramatically, ends dramatically and the twelve minutes in between are also incredibly exciting: This Midnight Hour by British composer Anna Clyne is an evocative, archaic, captivating piece that unleashes a wealth of emotions and images. First performed in 2015, it quickly became an audience favorite. Béla Bartók's first piano concerto, which traces the elemental forces of rhythm and sound, is also captivating. Here, the piano becomes a rhythm instrument and, together with the orchestra, unfolds an energetic momentum with an almost electrifying effect. Claude Debussy describes the elemental forces of nature and human existence in his Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, a key work of musical impressionism and Debussy's compositional breakthrough. In his early suite, however, the master of colors and moods is still almost classical. Here the composer still revels in the spirit of classicism and the Belle Epoque: with wit, charm and esprit.
The concert introduction begins 30 minutes before the concert in the "Small Hall" of the Glocke.
