Pina Berlin returns "Back to the Roots" on the stage of Jazz am Helmholtzplatz/the Brotfabrik, because the singer-songwriter's musical roots lie in both Turkish music and jazz. Pina Berlin, the artist name of the Berliner-by-choice Pınar Tatlıkazan, wants to use music to touch people, awaken emotions and create connections. If you are wondering what Turkish jazz is and are interested in its international and political history, come to Pina Berlin's international quartet of Berlin jazz musicians on June 28, 2025.
Combined with elements from jazz music, you can expect an eclectic mix: from Turkish jazz pieces from the modern to the 60s, singer-songwriter anthems of the 80s, to the psychedelic rock of the 70s, to folk standards and Pina's own compositions. The band consists of Oğuzhan Altınay on guitar, Maik Kleer on double bass, Alfred Mehnert on percussion and Pina Berlin on vocals, ukulele and saxophone.

More about Pınar Tatlıkazan:
Pınar Tatlıkazan is a singer, songwriter and singing teacher, born in Bursa, raised in Istanbul and living in Berlin since 2010. Her musical journey began with classical vocal training in Istanbul, followed by studies with renowned jazz musicians in Berlin, Istanbul and Massachusetts. In addition to her voice, she also accompanies her bands on saxophone and ukulele. Under her stage name "Pina Berlin", she has released seven singles and one album, which have been nominated several times. In her songs, she explores themes such as human interaction and self-discovery, striking a balance between self-reflection and motivational messages. Her music is the answer to: What if Norah Jones and Led Zeppelin collaborated in Istanbul in the 90s? This is exactly what you hear in her dynamic blend of multi-faceted vocal styles.
Pinar fuses different cultural influences and musical genres, and tries to fill her music with empathy, positivity and hope - in the midst of a hectic world characterized by individualism. Her path to music, however, was unconventional: she initially studied architecture in Berlin and led a double life until a burnout and the onset of fibromyalgia forced her to recognize her true calling. She opted for music and has since worked with renowned musicians and stages in Berlin and Istanbul. She is currently studying jazz singing and "Music and Movement - Rhythmics" at the Berlin University of the Arts. Here she explores the connection between music and movement, which she discovered for herself through her health journey, in an experimental and improvisational context.
