Where there is a crater, there must have been an incident. Something has hit or erupted where there is now silence. In 2012, Messer spit a feverish debut into the bubbling enthusiasm for punk from Germany and grew to become a formative voice in the post-punk revival of the decade - probably precisely because they are still at odds with the present, keeping an eye on it, touching it, but not being absorbed by it or allowing themselves to be driven by it. Numerous rock bands talk themselves into being stagnant, whereas the group Messer's belief in the band format brings them forward. Four people - Pogo McCartney, Milek, Hendrik Otremba, Philipp Wulf - who come together again and again, from their lives and other creative work, with new acquaintances and impulses, to work out what their shared aesthetic vision can actually look like right now.
You can hear the celebration of this concept on the new album. Presumably also because the album concludes a phase of reorganization that was still in full swing on No Future Days (2020): after Jalousie (2016), the new four-piece consciously decided to work without guests and for the first time produced completely independently in a sound that shifted towards dub and funk. What was still wildly rampant on the last two records is now more firmly established and at the same time provides security for further expeditions. Crater music has been created! - Sebastian Berlich
WEDDING SONGS (Koblenz, DE) - Between asphalt and dust, between western and post-punk. A two-man project has become a five-piece band that seeks the tension between vastness and narrowness in shimmering guitars and heavy rhythms. Beauty in ruin, shimmering heat.
Their sound is reminiscent of The Gun Club and Rowland S. Howard - raw, melancholic, contemporary. After the debut "Hard To
Find" (STTW Records), the band is working on their second album, which is due for release in 2026.
FEMMES FATIGUÉES: the most tired women in France.
The finest yawning music, the world has never seen faux-French punk like this before. Dreaming with one leg, dancing wildly with the other. (Text translation from French: Lili Kur)
