From December 5 to 21, 2025, the Old Market in Potsdam will be transformed into a special place all about the cocoa bean. Every day from noon to 8 pm, the Potsdam Chocolate Market invites you to discover the world of chocolate with all your senses for the first time.

The new event format is inspired by a special chapter in Potsdam's city history - the so-called "steam chocolate", which was produced in the 19th century by Johann Friedrich Miethe not far from today's Museum Barberini. The market gives this historical connection to chocolate production a new, tangible setting.

The Old Market, surrounded by the Barberini Museum, City Palace, Nikolai Church and Old Town Hall, provides an impressive backdrop for this new market. The historical ensemble unites different eras and architectural styles and creates an atmosphere in which history, culture and enjoyment combine in a special way. Around the marble obelisk, a stage is created for a diverse range of chocolate specialties and handcrafted products in the run-up to Christmas . These are complemented by culinary contributions from French country cuisine and other delicacies.

Between a hot chocolate or a warming glass of wine and sweet tastings, it is well worth visiting the surrounding museums and sights. The Museum Barberini presents top-class art exhibitions, the Potsdam Museum is dedicated to the city's history and in the immediate vicinity, St. Nikolai's Church and Potsdam City Palace - today the seat of the Brandenburg State Parliament - invite you to make further discoveries.

The Potsdam Chocolate Market aims to add a particularly sweet facet to this historic location in the heart of the state capital.
