Preis der jungen Dramatik 2026

Theater needs good and reliable support for young talent.
In 2026, the "Preis der jungen Dramatik" competition for young playwrights, organized by Staatstheater Braunschweig in cooperation with Neues Theater Halle, will enter its fourth round. Students from the German Literature Institute Leipzig, the Berlin University of the Arts, the Department of Cultural Studies & Aesthetic Practice at the University of Hildesheim and, for the first time, the Swiss Literature Institute (Bern University of the Arts) and the Institute for Language Arts (University of Applied Arts Vienna) were invited to submit a draft play for the Young Playwrights' Prize. The dramaturgy teams of the theaters in Halle and Braunschweig selected five outstanding drafts from the submissions. Set up by directors from the two theaters, these first theatrical sketches give a vivid impression of the potential that the plays with their different aesthetics can have in further development.
This weekend (May 16 & 17), the submissions will be presented in staged workshop readings at the Staatstheater Braunschweig and the neues theater Halle. We look forward to discovering new theatrical positions with you, the audience, to exchanging ideas and celebrating together.
