Pro Quote presents Feminist Time Travel: Die Sirene von Sepideh Farsi

Since 2024, ProQuote Film e.V. has been organizing“Feminist Time Travel”— a film series aimed at honoring the significant contributions of FLINTA* filmmakers to the film industry. The series features groundbreaking works and forgotten cinematic gems that leave a lasting impression, have experimented with new narrative styles, and explored new perspectives—thereby paving the way for future colleagues.

OnAugust 11 at the Wolf Kinoin Neukölln, producer Vanessa Ciszewski will present the animated film “Die Sirene” (2023) by Iranian director Sepideh Farsi.

With her animated film, Sepideh Farsi sheds light on the era following the Iranian Revolution, during which the country underwent a turning point whose repercussions continue to shape it to this day.

1980. Abadan, Iran’s oil metropolis, is on the brink of an Iraqi siege. The teenage Omid stays with his grandfather after unsuccessfully attempting to enlist as a soldier. On his wanderings through the city, he encounters unusual characters who, despite the looming Iraqi invasion, all have their own reasons for staying in the city. Among them is a famous diva and her daughter, Pari, with whom Omid falls in love. As the situation worsens, he discovers and repairs an old boat, a Lanj. Does this discovery offer Omid a chance to save himself and everyone he cares about?
