Pussy Riot im Bahnwärter Thiel

The Russian feminist protest collective PUSSY RIOT, known for their provocative, activist punk performances, will spontaneously present their "Riot Days" with an innovative combination of live music, theater and video at Bahnwärter Thiel. The current collective includes Maria "Masha" Alyokhina, Diana Burkot, Olga Broisova and Alina Petrova.

About the project Riot Days:

Alyokhina has teamed up with music producer Alexander Cheparukhin to create the Riot Days project, based on Alyokhina's critically acclaimed book RIOT DAYS. The show traces Alyokhina's experiences with Pussy Riot, from their iconic protests to their trials and prison sentences. The content evolves to reflect current events such as political persecution and Russian aggression against Ukraine.

With over 400 performances worldwide, "Riot Days" has won prestigious awards such as the Herald Angel Award, the Edinburgh Festival's Total Theatre Award, the annual Anti-Fascist Award in Germany, the Woody Guthrie Award in the USA and others. Just recently, four ladies from Riot Days received honorary doctorates from the University of Kent and celebrated this with an improvised performance in the historic Canterbury Cathedral.

Masha Alyokhina's year and a half imprisonment and house arrest in 2021-2022 for her public expression of support for political prisoners, including Alexei Navalny, is an example of the climate. Despite these hurdles, she managed to escape from Russia in May 2022, disguised as a food courier. At the time, Putin declared Alyokhina one of Russia's most wanted criminals, but even without her Russian passport she was still able to successfully cross the border. This escape allowed "Riot Days" to spread their message worldwide, especially in support of Ukraine.
