The start of an exciting project: Quatuor Ébène, celebrated for its energetic and precise interpretations, will perform all 16 of Ludwig van Beethoven's string quartets over two seasons. The very first concert in the cycle makes it clear what emotional heights the composer reached in his quartet works. On the one hand, we have the dance-like, gallant G major quartet from Beethoven's early Opus 18, and on the other, two quartets from his late phase: the dark and painful Opus 131 and the Opus 135, which oscillates between humor and melancholy and was Beethoven's last completed work.
