In the final concert of its international tour, the 90-piece youth orchestra from Brisbane, Australia, will make its debut in Hamburg. The conductor, Simon Hewett, is no stranger to Hamburg audiences: as Kapellmeister of the Hamburg Opera from 2005-2008 and Chief Conductor of the Hamburg Ballet until 2020, he has already conducted over 500 ballet and opera performances in the Hanseatic city and more throughout Europe.
The majority of the musicians are from Brisbane, Queensland, and as befits two cities close to the sea, the concert in Hamburg begins with Debussy's mysteriously playful depiction of the sea "La Mer". The young soprano Nina Korbe from Queensland accompanies the orchestra in Ravel's enchanting "Shéhérazade". Finally, Rachmaninov's Symphony No. 2 will be performed - bursting with lyrical sound, a lavish unfolding of melodies, beautiful harmonies, impressive instrumentation and dance-like rhythms.
