When the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl explodes in the spring of 1986, Mimi arrives in a small town in Finland. Mariia is immediately fascinated by Mimi. The two build up an intense relationship and experience the joys and turmoil of first love, which comes to a tragic end.

20 years later, Mariia returns to her hometown to look after her sick mother, and the memories of that summer that changed everything come flooding back. Mariia is confronted with the task of coming to terms with her memories and feelings of guilt.

VALOA VALOA VALOA is an affectionate coming-of-age story of two teenagers that deals with the themes of identity and sexuality, family and confronting one's own past.
