QUEER:RAUM - JAHRESAUSSTELLUNG 2024

In the organizer's words:

QUEER:RAUM - ANNUAL EXHIBITION 2024

As one of the most important forms of communication, language is one of the greatest and most influential phenomena of humanity. Individual and collective identity can be defined by language. Just like the cultural and social development of a society, language is constantly changing.

So why is language limited, politicized and even banned nowadays?

The Bavarian government's decision to ban gender-neutral language is just the latest example of the exercise of power through the control of language. At a time when inclusion and social justice are of the utmost importance, language is being used as a means to limit identity, culture and alternative worldviews.

What does it mean to use inclusive language? Who has the power to limit language? Should language be a political issue at all?

As a group of diverse artists, we aim to explore these questions from different angles and address them through various art forms. Social issues such as inclusion, re-appropriation, identity and communication are presented in this annual exhibition to create a space where guests are encouraged to reflect, learn and participate.

QUEER:RAUM

We are an intersectional queerfeminist artist collective with 40 queer members from Munich. Our work includes the disciplines of painting, photography, performance, drag, music, theater as well as political and activist engagement. We regularly organize queer events and exhibitions in Munich and have already collaborated with the Münchner Aidshilfe, the LEZ, the Club Rote Sonne, the Galerie Einwand, the Villa Stuck, the Habibi kiosk and the Ander-Art-Festival. It is very important to us to maintain visibility for queer issues in a wide variety of spaces and institutions in order to bring these issues as far into society as possible.
