poetize yourselves!
A poetry workshop for un|political poetry with Avan Amir Weis

In times of rising queer and trans hostility, increasing racism and ableism, as well as global crises and political hostility, we often lack words. Yet they are one of the most effective and powerful tools against oppression and powerlessness.

They allow us to experience the realities of life, feel thoughts and find allies beyond time and national borders. They also give us the opportunity to get our anger and desires out of our heads and onto paper.
and to create distracting nonsense from time to time.

The writing workshop is intended to function as a safe(r) space for queer people to share, jot down and scribble thoughts, to take the first steps in poetizing or to finish poems that have already been started, to experiment, collaborate and network. There is the opportunity to write at your own pace, alone or together, and to try out different methods (with support).

And who is actually giving the workshop?

The workshop will be led by Avan Amir Weis. Avan is AuDHD and a trans*/non-binary, genderfluid, gay poet, artist and critic. He writes for various magazines, gives workshops on art and queerness, regularly organizes group exhibitions and has notebooks full of fragments that might one day form a whole.

The event series is sponsored by the City of Bochum, the Mülheim an der Ruhr Cultural Office, the Arcus Foundation and the Ruhr Regional Cultural Program of the Ministry of Art and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
