Radio Al Madina Vol XI: Mit GGVybe

In the organizer's words:

At RADIO AL MADINA, we dedicate a regular listening session to non-European and diasporic music and pop cultures at the Nachtasyl. We cordially invite you into the cosmos and the works of inspiring musicians, singers, composers and producers of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

In our eleventh edition, we are delighted to welcome the female DJ collective GGVybe!

GG VYBE is stepping up to change the club scene. The DJs and organizers raise awareness for cultural-political issues, demand awareness on the dancefloor and push the visibility of women* and otherwise marginalized people. As a gang that supports and educates each other, they create a platform that facilitates access to DJing in the long term and opens up spaces. With their unique track selection and groundbreaking DJ approach, they create an incomparable atmosphere. Let yourself be enchanted by the songs and immerse yourself in a night full of sounds and rhythms! Experience a club and radio session that is second to none! Following a musical intermezzo between GGVybe and Guy Dermosessian at Radio Al Madina, we look forward to a club night à la Disco Al Madina:

ON STAGE

Miss Control: Miss Control's DJ sets could also be described as a caramel candy: Rap as a hard shell, but deep inside a sweet & soft RnB & Soul core. As a doctor of educational science, she repeatedly incorporates the connection between hip hop and politics into projects in the field of youth work and teaching assignments, or currently as part of the hip hop exhibition "The Culture" at the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt.

Jenni Yo: As the child of a radio host, Jenni grew up with various genres. Influenced by jazz, house, soul and blues, she uses these elements to create a basis that she mixes with warm melodies. Beats and edits merge with hip hop and R&B.

Febi: She grew up surrounded by everything from reggae and highlife to classical music - which is reflected in Febi's musical selection. She mixes downtempo, ambient and fast percussive rhythms with elements of hip-hop and bass-heavy sounds.

Jaraya: Jaraya usually creates open genre DJ sets. She focuses on an electronic sound in which she combines different genres, such as breakbeats, Jersey club, house and Baltimore club. In between, her individual story from the diaspora resonates. Characteristic rhythms from the Arabic sound world and even traditional instruments such as the oud or darbuka define her sound.

Guy Dermosessian (moderator) was born and raised in Lebanon and initially studied mechanical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe and the Ruhr University Bochum. Inspired by the dynamics of Beirut's subcultures, he designed various club and concert series, festivals and interdisciplinary art venues in unused or public spaces. As project manager of the Zukunftsakademie NRW, he recently advised various municipalities and cultural institutions in the state of NRW on diversity management. With his music label Kalakuta Soul Records, Guy Dermosessian brings together musicians and artists from different continents for joint projects.
