Cologne Jazzweek: Rainer Böhm Trio & Seamus Blake

In the organizer's words:

When pianist Rainer Böhm, born in Ravensburg in 1977, was in the studio with his sextet to record the album "What If", Böhm immediately sensed that the proverbial chemistry between him and the rhythm section with bassist Arne Huber and drummer Jonas Burgwinkel was right. The three had already played together in different line-ups from time to time. But it was only in the studio that they realized what potential they had when they played as a classical trio with piano, bass and drums: with communication at eye level, with anticipatory interplay and with their unique, improvisational exegesis of the musical material. For the concert at Cologne Jazzweek, Böhm will be joined by Canadian tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake. With his virile tone and eloquent phrasing, it's no coincidence that Blake is reminiscent of the instrument's forefathers, but he also knows that jazz is a music that develops out of the moment and is therefore firmly anchored in the here and now.
