Rasmus Myrup: The Völva’s Live Déjà Vu (Perfomance)

In the organizer's words:

Welcome to a folkloristic gossip session with the artist Rasmus Myrup and some of his old friends. For one afternoon, some of the figures from his installation Outside Salon des Refusés will be brought to life. In his performance, Myrup conjures up the immortal spirit of Völva as a flickering LED-reanimated villain who is friends with all the mythological creatures from Myrup's figures shown in forms of the surrounding futures.

Myrup's more recent works respond to how the cultural past is repeatedly hijacked by far-right conservatives who seek to distort history to fit their often patriarchal, misogynistic, homophobic and cis-centric worldview. Myrup resists this stifling grip by re-reading the past and bringing out its sensual, queer and progressive character - as in his performance. Völva, embodied by Rasmus Myrup, will bring her most personal stories to us humans so that she can be a good ally. So get ready for an afternoon of well-meaning nastiness and a lot of sentences that begin with the epitome of gossip: "I love her so much, but..."

The gossip session will last around 90 minutes. The performance will be in English, with a few interjections in Danish, Swedish and Old Norse (for the Iron Age people who may be present).
