With a drop into the Stuttgart cauldron: urban downhill series Red Bull Cerro Abajo in Germany for the first time on 5/6 September

Munich, April 21, 2026 - From South America to Swabia: Red Bull Cerro Abajo, the world's largest urban downhill mountain bike racing series, is coming to Germany for the first time for the showdown of the season on September 5 and 6. At the last of a total of four international stops, MTB riders from all over the world will battle for the world championship title and create a real action zone in the state capital on the route from the Teehaus to Wilhelmsplatz. High speeds, tight bends, difficult obstacles and chicanes challenge the athletes and provide plenty of adrenaline in the lanes. Three-time German MTB champion Johannes Fischbach will be the German hopeful at the start to compete with series stars such as Tomáš Slavík and conquer the challenging course. What began as a race in the steep alleyways of South America is now considered the 'Formula 1' of urban downhill racing: Red Bull Cerro Abajo has been officially established as an international series since 2023 and thrills fans of the action-packed discipline worldwide. Now the spectacular MTB format is coming to Germany for the first time. On September 6, 2026, the next world champion will be decided on the challenging course in the Stuttgart Kessel, which was specially constructed for the event. Red Bull Stuttgart Cerro Abajo marks the end of the current 2025/26 season, which includes four stops on two continents, starting with Genoa (Italy), continuing with the legendary 22nd edition in the original location of Valparaíso (Chile) and another edition in Genoa and ending with the premiere in Germany.

"Red Bull Cerro Abajo puts the cauldron, our parks and districts as well as Stuttgart's characteristic Stäffele in the spotlight," says Dr. Clemens Maier, Stuttgart's Mayor for Security, Order and Sport. "With its special topography, Stuttgart is the ideal stage for the German premiere of this sensational and internationally renowned sporting event." In order to stage this extraordinary race in the heart of the state capital, many cogs have to mesh together. "This requires careful examination and organization in advance, especially when it comes to safety and traffic concepts," says Maier. "Our public order office, as the licensing and security authority, is in particular demand when it comes to the special requirements of such a major sporting event. Together with all partners, it will make a significant contribution to making this action-packed MTB race possible in our sports city of Stuttgart."

FULL THROTTLE THROUGH THE CITY: URBAN DOWNHILL IN THE INDIVIDUAL TIME TRIAL

An urban downhill line like the one in Stuttgart has never been seen before in Germany. The trail leads over asphalt and concrete, through tight bends and up steep stairs past local hot spots. In between, the riders have to overcome man-made obstacles as well as obstacles that only an urban environment can offer - from drops and road gaps to doubles. The pros reach spectacular speeds of up to around 60 kilometers per hour. In the end, technique, courage and the perfect choice of line decide who finishes first and wins the world championship title with the best time.

WORLD ELITE MEETS LOCAL HEROES: SLAVÍK AND FISCHBACH AT THE SEASON FINALE

Red Bull Cerro Abajo attracts the best urban and downhill riders in the world. One of the title favorites is multiple winner and Red Bull athlete Tomáš Slavík: "Stuttgart will be a cool venue. I'm looking forward to a technical, exciting course - more compact than Valparaíso or Genoa, but definitely no less spectacular," says Slavík.

From a German perspective, the focus is primarily on Johannes "Fischi" Fischbach. The cyclist has not only been successful in the German downhill scene for many years, but this will also be his first home race. "The special thing about Stuttgart is not just the topography, but that the whole region is totally bike-crazy. There's a huge community here - I'm sure there will be lots of people lining the course and creating a bombastic atmosphere. I will definitely give my all for the local crowd and deliver."
