The title alone seduces, touches, excites: Schnitzler's "Reigen" is undoubtedly one of the most notorious theater texts of modern times. The Berlin premiere turns into a social scandal, the author is banned from performing his own work, the play seems ahead of its time. In 1920, "Reigen" is a theatrical provocation and breaks taboos: it is about loneliness, sex and longing. In the process, Schnitzler relentlessly tears down bourgeois facades and ventures a psychoanalytical cross-section of urban society. In a feverish series of scenes, Schnitzler's characters unite in the sexual act only to lose each other again. What separates them is their social background, what unites them is their desire for physical liberation and human closeness. Some 100 years later, the world is a different place, the boundaries of what can be said have shifted, our view of sexuality is more open. In the Unterhaus, Anton Schreiber, who is an assistant director at the D'haus and has already staged his dialogue "Digital Daydreams" here and Bertolt Brecht's "Refugee Talks" at the Theater Münster, dares to attempt an intimate reexamination with two actors - a contemporary update for a material whose socio-critical questions to a modern living world remain unbroken.
