REJOICER

Rejoicer is a project by Israeli musician and producer Yuvi Havkin. Influenced by Detroit producer Dabrye and beatmakers Madlib and Jay Dilla, he combines funk, hip-hop, breakbeats and jazz rhythms. He is a key architect of Israel's contemporary beat movement and promotes a community of international artists with his own label Raw Tapes. The label's productions mix jazz, funk and hip-hop with pop influences and show the richness of the Israeli scene, which combines coolness, elegance, playfulness, whimsicality and a certain degree of research and inventiveness.

A new Rejoicer album, This Is Reasonable, will be released in April. The album, which follows three jazz albums, picks up on earlier influences but takes a more electronic route. An album full of melodies and atmospheres, its eleven tracks convey a feeling of floating and are reminiscent of ambient music. Free from the clichés of the genre, the album is built on subtle melodies and rich harmonies of keyboards and synthesizers, borrowing from both the spirit of jazz and the inventions of electronica, carried by a gentle groove.

Some tracks on the album are reminiscent of relaxed versions of some early electronic classics from the Warp label by Aphex Twin or Boards of Canada. In his search for harmonies between bass, keyboards and drums, Yuvi Havkin was also inspired by Fela Kuti.

"This Is Reasonable" will be released on April 12 and he will be coming to the Gretchen with it on April 27.
