With only one basket instead of two and six players instead of ten, this version of basketball is guaranteed to be no less exciting. Streamlined rules make for a relentless, fast-paced game, and coupled with the gripping thrill of 'classic' basketball, it's no wonder that 3x3 basketball is the fastest growing urban sport in the world. And that's not all the new sport will bring to the Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum: The inclusion of 3x3 wheelchair basketball means that for the first time in the history of the FISU Games, a para-sport will be included in the competition program. Also known as "streetball", the sport has now achieved international popularity.

RULES

All you need to play 3x3 is a basket, half a court and six players. The streamlined rules make for a relentless, fast-paced game. Games are won by 21 points. If no team has reached this score after 10 minutes, the team currently in the lead wins. Unlike full-court basketball, there are no breaks between quarters, at half-time or after a basket has been scored.

With the success of 3x3, there has been a renewed focus on the introduction of simplified discipline in wheelchair basketball. The rules, drawn up by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF), were established after extensive consultation and research into the various formats of the disciplines played, taking into account key factors such as game flow, logistics and spectator experience. The new sport was seen for the first time at an international sporting event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
