Ring of Fire – Eine Hommage an Johnny Cash 2024

The legendary musician Johnny Cash died on September 12, 2003 at the age of 71. The "country singer" was a role model and inspiration for generations of musicians - including greats such as Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Bono and Nick Cave. Johnny Cash wrote around 500 songs, sold more than 53 million records and received 15 Grammy Awards. He became famous in the 1950s with songs such as Folsom Prison Blues and Walk The Line, and Johnny Cash encountered his themes early on: Guilt, loneliness, poverty, death, love and forgiveness. Cash, who lost his brother Jack as a teenager and had a problematic relationship with his father throughout his life, struggled with deep feelings of guilt and loneliness. This drove him into alcohol and drug excesses. He found support and love in his deep Christian faith and his second wife June Carter. After serious crashes and phases of artistic stagnation, he made several sensational comebacks: in 1968 he played Folsom State Prison, and in 1994 Rick Rubin produced American Recordings with him. He was a musical idol across generations like no other.
His contemporaries were impressed by Cash's charisma and his deeply lived faith. Here was someone who spoke of Christ, who had experienced the dark side of life and knew how to tell about it in a touching way in his music. This having gone through life gave his interpretations, such as Ring Of Fire, that special depth.
This very personal homage to Johnny Cash celebrated its premiere at the Gerhart Hauptmann-Theater Görlitz-Zittau in 2011 and has been an absolute audience magnet since its premiere at the Schauspielhaus Chemnitz in 2013/14 with over 30,000 visitors and tickets are in great demand.
