On Wednesday, September 11, we are celebrating the opening of Rirkrit Tiravanija: HAPPINESS IS NOT ALWAYS FUN. From 19:00 it will be loud, there will be cooking, talking, eating and playing - with an artist talk with Rirkrit Tiravanija, a Thaipark Cooking Session, a DJ set by Phuong-Dan and Free admission to the exhibition.

For more than 35 years, Rirkrit Tiravanija has been pushing the boundaries of what is possible in exhibitions. With his cross-genre practice, the artist creates situations in which people can eat and drink, play and rest. They leave room for chance encounters, social relationships and their failures - in short: for life.

From September 12, 2024 to January 12, 2025, the Gropius Bau will be showing over 80 works by the artist created between 1987 and 2024. DAS GLÜCK IST NICHT IMMER LUSTIG (HAPPINESS IS NOT ALWAYS FUNNY) ranges from early installations critical of institutions, experimental 8 mm films and photographs to text-based paintings and regular activations of the participatory works with which Tiravanija became known.
