A play by Rike Reiniger
Sascha wants to build a house with his girlfriend Juli. But then the company he works for closes down. In order to pay his loan, he becomes a regular soldier and goes to Afghanistan. His friend Paule and a young Taliban fighter die in a battle. While a guard of honor is kept for the dead soldier in the camp, the Taliban fighter is left to rot in the marketplace on the orders of the Afghan village chief. Sascha steals out of the camp to bury the dead man. The aftermath finally upsets his life.
What becomes of individual responsibility in war? What is the value of moral justifications for combat missions that are clearly a dirty business? In her play, Rike Reiniger draws on the Antigone myth and Edlef Köppen's World War II novel "Heeresbericht" and raises questions that are uncomfortable in times when we cannot avoid taking a stance on war.
