What is as multifaceted as love? Fiery, pining, desperate, cold, anxious, longing, platonic... It is the theme of life par excellence. Hardly anyone has portrayed love in its conflicting nature as perfectly in music as Robert Schumann in his song cycle "Dichterliebe".

Ema Nikolovska has already swept audiences off their feet in our pop-up store on Marienplatz. Of course, because she has a fantastic, warm, big voice. But especially because she literally immerses herself in the music, not just singing it, but also living it. It is precisely this authentic approach that is ideally suited to "Dichterliebe". For Ema, Robert Schumann masterfully deepens and interweaves the emotions and themes of Heinrich Heine's poems.

The songs are like a journey through the highs and lows of love. From the first euphoric infatuation in the "beautiful month of May" to the painful heartbreak that ends in the wish for death ("Die alten, bösen Lieder"). Because Schumann's music is so sensitive and full of subtleties, it lends Heine's poetry an additional emotional depth.
With his masterful combination of text and music, Schumann created a work with "Dichterliebe" that continues to fascinate and touch both singers and listeners to this day. It remains a timeless testimony to the infinite variety and complexity of human love.

Ema's musical partner is pianist Kunal Lahiry, who will also be performing as a soloist, including Sergei Rachmaninov's Moments Musicaux. Works by Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel lend further aspects to the theme of "love". In what way? Ema and Kunal will tell you themselves, of course, at the very first song recital at Bergson Kunstkraftwerk!
