Rodrigo Bauza Cuareim Quartet / A JAZZ STORY – CD RELEASE in Berlin

The musicians of the Cuareim Quartet have given us a beautiful nostalgic journey through the world of music as we know and love it. The whole album is a tribute to jazz in a restrained and balanced way. There are beautiful solo parts, but the musicians hold back, not plunging us into a cascade of notes, but dialoging with each other. In this new project, the quartet will take a look at the history of jazz from the perspective of a string quartet.

It revisits the history of jazz through its own poetic and anthropological gaze. These four unique musicians compose a repertoire of original compositions in which each track represents a chapter of the main currents of this music. From the "jazz funerals" of New Orleans to the grand orchestrations of Broadway tunes, from the colorful manners of '50s "cool jazz" to the energetic and vengeful energy of free jazz, the journey through history alternates between polished compositions and soulful improvisations, all in the service of the expression of these four musicians with strong artistic personalities. The album was followed by a tour of South America and Europe and a commission to write several pieces for string quartet and symphony orchestra, which were performed by the Argentine National Orchestra in Buenos Aires and the Valencia Orchestra in Spain. With the new release "A Jazz Story", the Cuareim Quartet takes the listener through the history of jazz in twelve pieces, creating a work that reflects and brings to life the spirit of the times through a modern and poetic lens, drawing on musical influences from the greatest jazz legends together with their own unmistakable South American style. In 2013, the two violinists Rodrigo Bauzá and Federico Nathan, who met as young violin students in Uruguay in 2002, founded the Cuareim Quartet together with cellist Guillaume Latil and violinist Olivier Samouillan. Shaped by their shared passion, the string quartet released its debut album Cinco"" in 2015 in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Marcelo Moguilevsk, which was named Album of the Year"" by the Argentinian newspaper La Nación.
