Roméo Mivekannin

In his first institutional solo exhibition in Germany, Roméo Mivekannin (*1986) combines post-colonial themes with the spiritual power of Vooodoo. He reinterprets paintings from European art history by replacing faces with his own self-portrait and using archive material to uncover the colonial gaze. He uses old bedsheets as supports, which he soaks in elixir baths in accordance with voodoo practices in order to make spiritual resistance visible.
