This is not your typical DJ workshop. It’s a personalized session with an internationally touring artist, designed to give you direct access to the knowledge, experience, and creative process behind the decks.

FROM ROOTS TO RHYTHM

South African Music Award-winning DJ, producer, and cultural curator Athie Umgido brings an Afro-futuristic sound from Mdantsane, East London, to dance floors around the world.

Blending Afro House, Afro Tech, and melodic electronic music, his sound is rooted in township rhythms and shaped by the energy of the European underground. Since beginning his DJ career in 2009, Athie has become a key voice in the evolution of African electronic music, co-founding Umgido Records and working with Bridges for Music as an A&R, label manager, and mentor for emerging artists.

His music and performances have received support from Black Coffee, Skrillex, Âme, Keinemusik, Stimming, Gordo, Oliver Koletzki, and Zakes Bantwini. His credits include Busiswa’s SAMA-winning album, a sync placement on Netflix’s *JIVA!*, and his track “Barr Setta, ” which was featured on BBC Radio 1 and reached #1 on Traxsource’s Hidden Weapons chart.

Athie has performed at EDC Las Vegas 2026, UNVRS Ibiza 2025/26, Akasha Ibiza, Awakenings Festival 2026, Garbicz Festival 2024/25/26, Rave The Planet 2024/25, Rocking the Daisies 2022/23, Fusion Festival 2025, Wonderfruit Thailand 2024, Afrika Burn – Ubuhlanti Stage, Amsterdam Dance Event, IMS Ibiza, Waagenbau Hamburg, Kater, Fundbureau, Descendants Hamburg, Bazique Festival, Wolfkop Weekender, United We Stream, Lighthouse Festival, Bucht der Träumer, and many more.

His sets are immersive and emotionally charged—featuring hypnotic percussion, melodic storytelling, and a deep connection between roots and rhythm.
