ROOTS portrays people who have shaped hip hop and are still carried by this culture today. The film looks back at their beginnings and shows what has remained of those formative moments. It shows how hip hop has changed and how the protagonists are constantly redefining their place in it.

Whether dance, music or art: hip hop means something different to every artist - it is precisely this individual freedom that is at the heart of the culture. But there is a common denominator: the stories bear witness to enormous versatility and the "struggle" that many have experienced on the way to their identity.

All of these protagonists have decisively shaped the scene in Saxony; their influence radiates far beyond the region. They inspire a new generation that carries the legacy of its predecessors within itself and develops it further. ROOTS combines past and present and proves that passion never fades. It only changes its form, grows with the people and remains the driving force that defines their lives.
