Franz Maget in conversation with

Anselm Bilgri and Nikolaus Birkl, founder of the Academy of Leisure

Born in Munich, father of two grown-up children and now also a grandfather, Franz Maget is one of the most experienced and popular politicians in the Free State of Bavaria. For over twenty years, he was a member of the Bavarian state parliament, leader of the SPD parliamentary group and vice-president of parliament in a variety of political fields. As leader of the opposition, he was twice his party's top candidate against the then Minister Presidents Edmund Stoiber and Günther Beckstein.

His parliamentary speeches and contributions to debates were always appreciated across party lines and generally recognized as exemplary in terms of both content and rhetoric.

He has deepened his broad international experience in recent years as a social affairs officer at the German embassies in Tunis and Cairo, and since 2019 as a special advisor to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Maget is the author of several books, including on the Arab Spring, and countless articles in specialist political science publications. He has also long been involved in committees at various universities, including the Munich School of Philosophy and the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.
