Play by Sina Ahlers

Mother and daughter live in an apartment building on a canal outside the city. The rents are rising and the mother reacts lethargically and unable to act to all the other crises in her life. Not even the reproaches and efforts of her daughter Vera help.

Driven by (inherited) traumatic memories, Vera crosses the canal. On the other side of the river, the world is a different place. It smells of bodies, it is rampant, it is ... offside. Here, two furies, Tine and Mascha, ensure that shame is given a permanent place. They attack social taboos, beat and thrash, bringing out people's innermost abysses.

An eerie and beautiful utopia. If it weren't for the brutal incident in the Garden of Eden when Matthias suddenly intervenes.

Sina Ahlers, author of the successful play Milch & Schuld (UA), received the Author's Prize of the Heidelberg Play Market 2020 for Schamparadies.

In this text, which is now being premiered at the Staatstheater Kassel, Sina Ahlers mixes hard-hitting realism and expressionism, imagery with her own directness. Sometimes revealingly humorous, sometimes painfully radical, she questions status and the body. In her very own formal language, she exposes the fine line between intimacy and sexual abuse and thus shamelessly looks shame and its origins in the face

In the direction of Olivia Müller-Elmau, a director in search of contradictory interpersonal relationships and feelings, trauma and shame, which in some cases have been entrenched in bodies for generations and are rampant there, become sensually tangible.
