"Schlaflos": A carnival of animals in the Berlin nights of the 2010s
In Schlaflos, a poetic and powerful monologue, the author transports us to a Berlin night in the 2010s in which friendship is the central theme. Joni, accompanied on stage by a DJ, tells us about his five friends one after the other, an inseparable group whose stories interweave in a haunting and empathetic way. The play takes us on a journey between tattoos, costume parties and endless nights out in a Berlin where each member of the group is trying to find or reinvent themselves.
Three central themes emerge: the saving power of friendship, which becomes a true anchor for Joni and Niels amidst the turbulence of life; the search for identity, explored through tattoos and the influence of friends on each other; and Berlin as a city of refuge, where exile, rebellion and the search for new beginnings collide. This text is an ode to youth, to wandering and to the passionate friendships that shape us. Joni, who embodies all of his friends, shows that identity is shaped by the other and that our neighbors define us as much as our own choices. The omnipresent live music echoes this quest and embodies Berlin - a city that is as loud as it is fragile, shaping the destinies of its protagonists.

"Schlaflos" The Carnival of Animals in the Nights of 2010s Berlin
In Schlaflos, a poetic and powerful monologue, the author immerses us in a Berlin night from the 2010s, where friendship serves as the central thread. Joni, accompanied by a DJ on stage, recounts the stories of his five inseparable friends, their narratives intertwining with both strength and tenderness. The play transports us through tattoos, fancy-dress parties, and endless nights in a Berlin where each member of the group strives to forge or rebuild their identity.
Three central themes emerge: the saving grace of friendship, which acts as an anchor for Joni and Niels amid life's turmoil; the quest for identity, explored through tattoos and the profound influence each friend has on one another; and Berlin itself, a refuge city where exile, rebellion, and the search for new beginnings converge. This text is an ode to youth, to wanderings, and to the passionate friendships that shape us. Joni, embodying all his friends, demonstrates that identity is forged through others, that our loved ones define us just as much as our choices do. The ever-present live music echoes this quest, representing Berlin-a city as loud as it is fragile-shaping the destinies of its inhabitants.
