SCHMØKERN: Lesen als soziales Phänomen in der Rathauspassage

Moin moin Schmøkernde,

For the seventeenth installment of our literary format, we invite you to Schmøkern together at the small Alster in the Rathauspassage.

Before the reading time, you can browse through the bookshop Kehrwieder's selection and the themed book table on "Community and Encounter".

Cafédrale will be preparing a variety of succulent sandwiches for the evening and will have a fine selection of drinks from hot to cold on site.

After the reading time, you are welcome to stay for a while and chat about your books and reading experiences over a drink.

Flexible Schmøkern:

The respective "Schmøkern" has a thematic bracket, which is chosen by the location, the institution or for conceptual reasons. It is usually one free evening a month at different locations.

18:30 Admission
Please be on time, as we would like to start the reading time together.
There will be time for food, drinks and informal exchange and examination of the book table.

Welcome to Schmøkern and discussion with Björn Dobbertin, manager of the Rathauspassage

20:00 hrs
Start of the reading time of one hour. During this time, all Schmøkernde delve into the books they have brought with them or their choice from the book table for an hour.

21:00: End of reading time and conclusion

Thematic book table

If someone has not brought their own reading material: We put together a small book table for each meeting of "Flexibles Schmøkern" - reading material suitable for the location or topic, which can be used within the reading time as well. This time, the book table will be set up together with the bookshop "Kehrwieder" in the Rathauspassage.

Talking about humanity and empathy is nice - who wouldn't want more of it? Empathy seems particularly important these days, when many people feel abandoned and helpless. But putting it into practice is a Herculean task.

With our socially integrative concept and intensive coaching, Rathauspassage Hamburg, which is run by PASSAGE GmbH, has been helping people out of social hardship and enabling them to participate in society and integrate into the general labor market since 1998. The renovation, which began in September 2020, will increase our space to 1,000 m² and make it even more attractive and brighter by opening it up to the Kleine Alster. Together with partners, we will expand our range of services and become a central location for art & culture, democratic processes and discussions.

City society, Hamburg politics with the Senate and Parliament, the Evangelical Lutheran Church and Diakonie Hamburg have laid the foundations for this - for which we are very grateful. The urgently needed expansion and conversion of our premises was completed in February 2024.
