Schönbergs »Erwartung« und Rachmaninows Dritte mit Eun Sun Kim
In the organizer's words:
This concert shows how contrasting musical worlds could be at the beginning of the 20th century. Arnold Schoenberg's expressionistic monodrama Erwartung, performed by Tamara Wilson as soloist, is innovative: an overwhelmingly intense atmospheric picture between fear and hope. In contrast, Sergei Rachmaninoff's late romantic Third Symphony, written in American exile, is characterized by a melancholy look back. The South Korean conductor Eun Sun Kim, music director of the San Francisco Opera, makes her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker.
