Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No. 15 in A major op. 141, arr. for piano trio and percussion by Viktor Derevianko
Shostakovich maintained his artistic freedom and dignity under the oppressive Soviet regime. His music bears witness to the civilizational catastrophes of the 20th century - as does his last symphony. Full of quotations from his own works and from operas by Wagner and Rossini, it seems to take stock. The chamber version concentrates the brutality, sarcasm, lament and freedom of the music like a burning glass.
