Western mourningclothes in the 19th century - lecture by Katharina Ruprecht on "Western mourning clothes in the 19th century" followed by the sale of original clothes from her collection
The history of mourning culture is as old as mankind itself, but it was only in the 19th century that customs for wearing certain colors on certain occasions emerged, as we still know and use them today. You can find out how this came about and what the mourning clothes consisted of in a lecture by custom tailor, costume designer and passionate collector of antique clothing Katharina Ruprecht.
After the lecture, you will have the opportunity to view, study and purchase original mourning clothes from 1890 - 1910. These include capes, waistcoats (outerwear reinforced with sticks), hats and accessories.
The event is organized by the Carola Salon - an association of people who share a great passion for clothing from the late 19th century and early 20th century.
