Preview/ solo evening. Sebastian Krämer himself knows little more about his new program than the dates on which it is due, such as this one. And yet he is not short of new pieces. Since the award-winning "Liebeslieder an eine Tante" (Love Songs to an Aunt). But are they acceptable?
Do we perhaps need something completely different? Anyone who hasn't looked at the man's fingers for a long time while they have been tracking down the most remote keys in the keyboards of cabaret factories might be surprised at what has happened recently. Those who are up to date, on the other hand, may wonder whether the dark, enigmatic, melancholy quality is now intensifying in a way that finally disqualifies his work as a contribution to the entertainment genre, or whether the conciliatory variety of themes and pitches that once characterized Krämer has risen again for the edification of us all.
"The crassest living songwriter there is, and ... a genius!"
Oliver Polak
"Many of his songs are ambiguous in the literal sense of the word, meaning they have an architectural quality. Their wit is revealed in the structure, in the second pass through the motif material. The idea throws off its punch line, and the listener is satisfied with a conventional topos if it is drastically or strikingly developed. [...] But the real fun is yet to come, on a higher level, on a floor whose existence one had no idea when entering the building. The artifice of the unnoticed transition is the rhyme, the repetition of sound, which enables a shift in thought."
