On March 6, 2026 Shatten released their new album "GEGENWART". The band from Hamburg and Berlin once again combines intense energy with a strong sense of atmosphere and intention. Following their self-titled debut album from 2021 and the follow-up "Gruppenchat" from 2023, which cemented their reputation as one of Germany's most exciting underground bands, "GEGENWART" focuses entirely on the present. While the earlier albums were characterized by dark futurism and urban dissonance, "GEGENWART" explores the state of the here and now. Sharp, direct and imbued with a peculiar melancholy. "GEGENWART" will be released on March 6, 2026 as 12" vinyl and digitally via Misitunes / Hanseplatte.

shatten are taking their time, breaking away from their punk roots in places and opening up to a freer, more playful version of themselves. The album puts you in a good mood and remains exciting and varied. The vocals are mostly delicate and clear - only in certain places do they become direct and aggressive. The instrumentation is also more playful and less stoic than on previous albums.

And even if you can hear shatten's origins in the Hamburg indie rock cosmos, American indie rock bands such as The National, Modest Mouse or Built to Spill are more likely to be cited as references. In the German-speaking world, their sound is reminiscent of bands such as Erregung öffentlicher Erregung, International Music or Die Nerven.

Despair always - self-pity never

The samples are a mixture of nature and shortwave transmitter sounds. The samples are only recorded in the dark. MPCs are night machines! Even the salty air of the North Sea doesn't let them in. Now, in Hamburg,
far away from the island, MPC is developing into a spotlight of new music whose mixture is difficult to describe. He sings about insects and birds, sunsets and the senseless spin of a world that deserves better. Listen and dance - there's nothing else to do and at some point, when you're in distress between Schott and Helgoland
you will hear it anyway, because the seagulls are like mountains and bring back the music of MPC Lafote as a lasting echo.
