Following the Golden Bear winner "Body and Soul" (2017), Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi presents SILENT FRIEND, a poetic, sensitive work in which the relationship between plants and humans becomes a symbol of the universal longing for connection.

In the heart of a botanical garden in a medieval university town in Germany stands a majestic ginkgo tree. For over a hundred years, it has been a silent witness - an observer of quiet, profound changes in the lives of three people. In 2020, a Hong Kong neuroscientist researching the cognitive development of babies begins an unusual experiment with the old tree. In 1972, a young student experiences an inner transformation - triggered by a simple, mindful connection with a geranium. In 1908, the first female university student discovers hidden patterns of the universe through the lens of her camera - inscribed in the most inconspicuous plants.
