Silvan Strauss revives the art of analog and organic beatmaking.

Hamburg-based drummer, beatmaker and producer Silvan Strauss, whose DIY breaks on TikTok are causing a sensation, is one of Europe's outstanding jazz drummers. His style moves effortlessly between the different styles of jazz and contemporary urban sounds.

Born in Kempten, Silvan played drums as a child on everything he could get his hands on. He played in the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra, produced his own beats between rehearsals and switched between punk and hip-hop bands before finally studying at the Hamburg University of Music.

Since then, he has been at home in numerous collaborations and has worked with greats such as Maria João, Soweto Kinch, Salomea, Omer Klein, Guinga, Farhot, Cro, Clueso, Nneka, WDR Bigband, NDR Bigband, Nils Landgren and Till Brönner.

Strauss also incorporates the immense input from all the different projects into his own project Toytoy, where he produces and works with his bandmates on the vision of experimental groove music. In 2021, he was awarded the Hamburg Jazz Prize, a prize awarded by musicians and therefore a very special honor.

Strauss releases his own music on Kabul Fire Records. His second studio album FLUKIN' with impressive feature guests such as Oscar#Worldpeace, Joe Armon-Jones, Salomea, Farhot or Mehdi Qamoum was released at the end of 2024.
