SKERRYVORE
In the organizer's words:
Since time immemorial, lighthouses have been places steeped in mystery and solitude. They guide sailors to safe harbor or help them navigate around dangerous cliffs. A wonderful source of inspiration for a band that, with its extraordinary sound and captivating consistency, sends beacons of light out into the world and has been gaining new fans every day for 20 years.
The sound of Skerryvore—named after the lighthouse on the “Isle of Tiree” in western Scotland—is as breathtaking as the wild and untamed island itself, which is home to some of the band members. Their high-energy trad rock, featuring fiddle, accordion, pipes, flutes, whistles, guitar, and bagpipes, is like the wild surf crashing against the cliffs. Bass, keyboards, and drums add funky accents.
But the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands is also clearly evident in the Skerries’ music. The wonderful voice of frontman Alec Dalglish, who also writes most of the songs, gets under your skin.
This blend has earned the band several awards: Best CD and Best Singer/Songwriter (SNMA); 3 × Live Act of the Year (STMA). In 2017, Skerryvore were the face of the global “Visit Scotland” campaign.
