Slow Pulp, support: Packs

Wisconsin-born, Chicago-based indie rock quartet Slow Pulp will release their second album "Yard" on September 29, 2023, which is also their debut for their new label ANTI- Records. After this year's support shows for Death Cab For Cutie (in Europe) and the Pixies (in USA), they will come on headline tour in Germany for the first time in December 2023.

Slow Pulp is Emily Massey (vocals/guitar), Henry Stoehr (guitar/producer), Teddy Mathews (drums) and Alex Leeds (bass), and the band is rooted in friendships spanning more than 10 years. Stoehr and Mathews attended elementary school together in Madison and met Leeds through a local music program. Massey joined in college, and while Leeds studied at the University of Minneapolis and the other members in Madison, the quartet began recording, playing shows around the Midwest and eventually releasing EP2 in 2017. It's an intimate, restless 17-minute lo-fi debut that has found distribution on YouTube channels and blogs. In 2018, the band moved to Chicago, where they wrote and recorded the majority of their EP, Big Day. In 2019, they toured with Alex Gand and worked on their debut album, "Moveys." Due to Massey's Lyme disease diagnosis and chronic mononucleosis, as well as a serious car accident involving her parents, the band completed Moveys in isolation. Their new album, Yard, took shape in February 2022, when Massey was living alone in a friend's family cabin in northern Wisconsin. Isolation was an important part of their process on Yard, but they were able to use it strategically. "One of the things we found is that it's very important to take the time to be intentionally isolated, and it's also important to collaborate more at other times," Leeds says. In Slow Pulp, this trust between members is evident in the playful collaboration at the core of their creative process. In different ways, the four grew up together - and are still growing up together.
