Imagine a space where the imperfect and broken in you is not only embraced, but celebrated. Imagine melancholy turning into a rapture that tastes sweeter than sun-ripened dates. Imagine living in a world where radical self-love and self-acceptance are the catalyst and substance for how we treat each other and what kind of relationships we form.
With their debut EP In Case You Still Get Lonely, Soft Loft deliver five beautiful, reverb-adorned songs with long-lasting hooks that embrace these notions as if they were facts.
Music is a safe place. It doesn't judge, it speaks directly to you and offers refuge when you want to escape reality." - Jorina Stamm (Soft Loft)
Work on the material began in spring 2021. The band sought out different places, made them their sanctuaries and built an album from the moments spent there. The central location for this process was a small, winding house in Ticino, the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. Isolated from the outside world, they were able to lose themselves there for days in the music and the profound sources of late-night conversations - giving the magic its space.
Jorina Stamm wrote the melodies and lyrics, her voice is the defining element of Soft Loft. However, ideas for the compositions come from every member of the band. Occasionally they are created directly as a collective - in rehearsals, joint studio sessions and jams. When Grammy-nominated producer Gianluca Buccellati(Lana Del Rey, Arlo Parks) got in touch with them, they had already written 30 songs. Jorina remembers this session, which took place in a snowed-in house in Engelberg: "We've never recorded music as quickly as we did with Luca, and we had a really good time". She continues: "We didn't strive for perfection, we just hung out and played together. We became family, the interaction was very personal and pleasantly direct."
The phrase "The Party And The Mess", which became the song and album title, comes from my grandmother. During a visit to her retirement home, she told me that when she feels it's time to go, she wants to put on her favorite red dress and have a big party with lots of champagne! The song and album are both a tribute to grandma and an ode to life: "the big party and the mess of it all". - Jorina Stamm
This debut album sounds like an intimate conversation between dear friends that the listener is allowed to witness. The essence of it lies in the ease with which everyone plays their parts. The way the individual instruments weave together to carry the voice and the emotions it conveys - it gets under your skin and feels damn good there. If there's a single word to describe that feeling, that word is probably trust. Deep, unconditional trust.
If you now feel like listening to this musical conversation live, we recommend April 27th, when Soft Loft will celebrate their Hamburg debut at the beautiful Nachtasyl .
