Penniless Tom Ripley is to travel to Italy to persuade the young American playboy Dickie Greenleaf to return to the USA. Dickie, however, prefers to continue enjoying the dolce vita. Tom envies Dickie the life he leads. One day, a deadly brawl breaks out. With a great deal of talent, Tom Ripley now slips into the skin of the dead Dickie Greenleaf. But some people who were close to Dickie Greenleaf are asking themselves questions: is it possible for someone like Dickie to simply disappear?
