Songs for Alice

The mangy White Rabbit and the mysterious Cheshire Cat, the fat Duchess, the egghead Humpty Dumpty and the legendary Jabberwock, the extinct Dodo or the scrappy twins Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum - none of them are cute characters from a harmless children's story, but rather mad representatives of a bizarre logic of absurdity and subterranean desire. The mathematician, writer and photographer Lewis Carroll created them to entertain his little friends.

In scenes and songs, "Songs for Alice" is primarily dedicated to the poems in the two volumes. Puppeteers and musicians whisk us away into a somnambulistic world of fantasy and sudden realization. In director Hendrik Mannes' production, fervent hits and noisy explosions, expressive figures and poetic machines, quiet moments and great fanfare, catchy tunes and bouncers all find their place.

This extraordinary evening between prose and punk has been traveling the boards that mean the world since its creation in the West Wing in 2011... and making them rotten and brittle. Ghosts rise up, madness spreads and even language loses its logic. A production as daring as it is groundbreaking. More Carroll is not possible!

The White Knight: 'But here I must leave you. - You are sad, let me sing you a song to comfort you. Alice: 'Is it very long?' The White Knight: 'It's long, but very, VERY beautiful. Everybody that hears me sing it - either it brings the TEARS into their eyes, or else. Alice: 'Or else what? The White Knight: 'Or else it doesn't, you know.
