English lute songs by John Dowland and arias by Henry Purcell
Awarded "Singer of the Year" by Opus Klassik 2022, the French-Italian mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre is acclaimed by audiences and adored by internationally renowned opera houses and festivals such as Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence. The artist inspires with her crystal-clear, colorful and agile voice and her natural charisma. As a dedicated chamber musician, Lea Desandre performs regularly with lutenist Thomas Dunford and his enthusiastic Jupiter Ensemble. The hand-picked members make lively and powerful music and are able to create a dense atmosphere of spherical sounds out of nothing. In a double portrait, the "Songs of Passion" program is dedicated to the British Baroque grand master Henry Purcell and John Dowland, known for his soulful and melancholy laments. Iconic songs by the latter, such as "Come Again" and "Flow My Tears", meet touching arias by the former from "The Fairy Queen" and "Dido and Aeneas" - beautiful to kneel down to!
